Hotel Otai was founded in 1968 by Nicholas Haoa and Rosita Cardinali. At first there were only four rooms, but in 1986 it was expanded and renamed Hotel Otai. Today it has 40 rooms set in various buildings within its tropical gardens, each with a small terrace and private bathroom.

There is an outdoor pool in the gardens, a small restaurant serving breakfast, and some common areas both inside and out for guests to relax in.
