An active trip for those that like to move at a fairly fast pace to get a really good insight in to Guatemala. Start in the wonderful colonial city of Antigua and the real heart of the country for a couple of days. Next stop is the spectacularly beautiful Lake Atitlan with its back drop of three volcanoes and delightful traditional villages dotted around its shores. From here travel further west and deeper into the beautiful highlands, through Mayan farming villages until you reach the regional capital of Quetzaltenango. Visit San Francisco el Alto and its infamous animal market before heading north to the little visited and stunningly beautiful Verapaz region, known for its limestone caves and birdlife. End the trip by spending time in the El Peten region exploring the breathtaking Mayan ruins at Tikal.
