Located just inside Évora’s historic walls, the M’AR de AR Muralhas offers an excellent base from which to explore the city. A contemporary hotel with large, tastefully furnished rooms, the property has a bright, modern feel tempered by the addition of traditional design elements such as the earthy tones of terracotta flooring. The rooms are classical in style but understated with rustic furniture and soft fabrics. To the rear you’ll find a generous garden that backs directly onto the medieval city ramparts and features a large outdoor swimming pool. On the ground floor, the BAR Muralhas provides a pleasant seating area as well as an outdoor terrace overlooking the pool. Should you wish to dine in, the hotel’s Sabores do Alentejo restaurant offers an innovative menu based around the traditional cuisine of the region.

Well-located and offering excellent value for money, we find the M’AR de AR Muralhas to be a particularly comfortable and convenient hotel.

Rooms

All the rooms at the M’AR de AR Muralhas are elegantly furnished in a classical style with neutral tones and subtle bright or floral accents. All are spacious and boast large windows that allow in plenty of natural light, as well as traditional terracotta-tiled floors and well-equipped en suite bathrooms. Many of the rooms also have balconies with views over the gardens and medieval walls or across the rooftops of the city. A further selection have large terraces overlooking the pool, and private sun loungers. All rooms have LCD TVs, air conditioning and complimentary Wi-Fi.

Location

Located directly inside Évora’s historic walls on the eastern side of the city, the M’AR de AR Muralhas has a convenient location for exploring the city. The central Praça do Giraldo, Évora’s main square, can be reached in less than ten minutes on foot while the 13th-century cathedral and Roman temple are just five minutes further away.

Food and drink

A buffet breakfast is served each morning in the large ground floor dining room with tables extending outside into a small central courtyard. The hotel also offers a pleasant bar with a terrace overlooking the swimming pool and a fine dining restaurant serving traditional Alentejo cuisine. Évora is famed as being the gastronomic capital of the region and you’ll find numerous other dining options just a ten minute walk away in the heart of the city.
