Set back from the Douro River in Régua, about half an hour from Pinhão, Quinta do Vallado is a wine estate established over 300 years ago. Since 2005 the estate has welcomed guests into its 13 rooms which are split between the original manor house and a contemporary new wing built in 2012. Both are surrounded by terraced gardens.

Decor in the rooms in the original house is classical in style, while the new wing is sleek and modern. All rooms are spacious and comfortable, with views to the back of Régua or the hotel’s expansive gardens, and modern comforts such as air conditioning, TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi.

To the back of the gardens is the hotel spa, which includes a sauna, Jacuzzi and relaxation area with a panoramic view of the surrounding vineyards. There is also an outdoor pool, accessed by a few steps, which also features a poolside bar in the summer. The hotel is connected to a modern winery where you can take a tour and browse the wine shop.

A tranquil retreat just outside of Régua, we love the stylish decor and stunning architectural design of the attached modern winery.

Rooms

Rooms are split between the original 18th-century manor house and a sleek, modern, slate wing. In the manor you’ll find light, natural tones and a floral theme, while in the new wing, warm woods combine with dark grays, clean lines and chic contemporary design. All rooms provide TVs, air conditioning and Wi-Fi, with some suites also offering a balcony. Rooms in the manor wing open directly onto the gardens.

Location

The hotel is situated along a tributary of the Douro River in Régua. Pinhão is about half an hour away by car, while Porto is about an hour and a half away.

Food and drink

Large windows overlook the terraced vineyards in the hotel’s restaurant which serves regional specialities prepared using local ingredients and served alongside wine from the estate. There is a limited menu at lunch and a set menu served in the evening. Guests are also invited to tastings and can arrange for a tour of the cellar to taste a selection of their best wines.

Facilities and activities

The hotel spa offers a place to relax and unwind with a sweeping view of the vineyards and includes a Jacuzzi, sauna and treatment rooms. For those interested in learning about the property’s long wine-making history, it is possible to tour their state-of-the-art winery which is designed to reflect the importance of slate in the surrounding terroir.
