The resort offers just 26 suites and 13 villas, all sophisticatedly designed to accentuate the resorts beach chic vibe. Whether nestled within the hillside or set upon the beachfront, all the rooms boast a sea view and a dedicated butler service which is on hand to take care of you during your stay. Pink accents are used to craft dramatic contrast between cream fabrics and dark woods, paired with elegant marble to create a sumptuous feel. The rooms are accompanied by a touchscreen tablet, allowing guests to create their ideal stay; from amending the room temperature to requesting spa and golf services.

The Grenadines Archipelago is made up of 32 islands and quays. Lying between the larger islands of St Vincent and Grenada is Canouan Island, home to The Mandarin Oriental. The island may be small at just 12 sq km (5 sq miles) but it is vast in natural beauty with steep rolling hills and abundant greenery, enclosed by turquoise waters.

Regular flights from both Saint Lucia and Barbados are available to Canouan Island, meaning you’ll get aerial views of the emerald green hills and serene beaches below before you have even checked in. The flight from Barbados takes around 45 minutes and just 20 minutes from Saint Lucia. A complimentary transfer will take you to the resort, situated a short ten-minute drive from the airport. Alternatively, arrival by the private jet on the island's runway is also a tempting option.

And if you want to go island-hopping around the Caribbean, the Glossy Bay Marina offers more than 120 berths, accommodating from small, up to super-yachts and is just 10 minutes’ drive from the Mandarin Oriental.

Facilities and activities

Canouan has the only championship 18-hole golf course in the Grenadines. Played over two nine-hole loops, the Jim Fazio course meanders around the bay for outstanding views of the beaches and reef and then climbs the hillside, continuing the incredible vistas of Canouan and the surrounding islands. A sundowner at the 13th hole is an exceptional experience.

Visit the resorts water sports center where a selection of non-motorized activities such as hobie cats, windsurfing equipment and kayaks are all available for guest use. There is a fully equipped gym and three all weathered tennis courts. Rent a racket at the pro-shop and take to the floodlit courts for an evening game.

Hop onto your golf buggy or a bicycle, navigating your way around the island’s tortoises on a leisurely gaunt to find the 17th century Anglican church hidden among the tropical greenery.

Local excursions

Along with tennis, golf and yoga lessons, the resort will be more than happy to arrange excursions for you. Take a guided hike up the islands highest peak, Mount Royal at 240 m (787 ft) for panoramic views. Sail off on a catamaran to see where scenes of Pirates of the Caribbean were filmed, go snorkeling in Tobago Cays or go on a deep-sea fishing trip to experience more of what the island has to offer.
