Walking Safari in Ruaha National Park

The emphasis on your safari from Kichaka Camp, with your host and guide Moli, is on the walking safaris which really unveil the magic of Ruaha National Park. Moli is one of the best and most experienced guides in Tanzania and knows the park like the back of his hand.

Walk durations can vary but a long morning walk can last up to five hours and cover a distance of ten kilometers, but if you get tired a vehicle is only a radio call away to whisk you back to camp. The focus on a walk is to take in the smaller details of the bush, tracking animals by their footprints, stopping to admire birdlife in the trees, and watching smaller creatures and their behaviors without the noise and disturbance of a vehicle. Larger game such as elephant and buffalo may be encountered, too, and Moli will instruct you on how to behave in order to remain safe around these larger animals.

You can also enjoy game drives which are the ideal way to see the bigger wildlife, in open sided vehicles, offering uninterrupted views. As well as this, you can spend time birdwatching, either on foot or by vehicle, trying to take in as many of the 547 bird species found in Ruaha. For those that are interested, you can also incorporate bushcraft into a walk, learning how you would survive in this wild and rugged environment. In the evenings, before or after dinner, you can enjoy a spot of stargazing, using the impressive computerized telescope which can pick up impressive levels of detail!
