L’Auberge Carmel, a member of Relais & Chateaux, is an historic hotel dating back to 1929. Ideally located, the hotel is just a two-minute walk from the heart of Carmel and just a five-minute walk to the beach. Throughout, the ambience of the hotel and restaurant is luxurious and romantic, combining modern amenities with old-world charm.

The decor of the 20 guest rooms accents the original coved plaster walls and the French windows. Each room features a flat-screen television, Wi-Fi access and large bath areas that feature antique travertine tiles and radiant floor heating; some come with soaking bathtubs, and all offer hand-hammered copper sinks and luxurious bath products.

The highlight of the hotel is its restaurant, Aubergine. With just nine tables, it has an intimate feel, and it is recommended to make a reservation well in advance. There is also an underground wine cellar, constructed beneath the inn's courtyard, which houses a collection of 4,500 bottles.
