Design and craftsmanship are key elements of the striking architecture at An Lâm Retreats Ninh Van Bay. You arrive by boat and your first glimpse of the hotel is an enormous, lotus-like restaurant pod fashioned out of strips of pale wood that sits over the turquoise waters of the bay.

The hotel is set in a secluded position between lush jungle and a soft, powdery beach and its 34 stand-alone villas are well spaced out along the shore and in the surrounding forest. Natural woods and muted, pared-back decor create a soothing, unhurried atmosphere with friendly staff and private butlers catering to every need. The contemporary timber villas, each with private veranda, and many with their own plunge pool, are spacious and bright with a choice of locations and views available.

The restaurant and bar are as impressive as their setting with creative Vietnamese and Western dishes and tropical cocktails dominating the menu. A large free-form pool, a jungle spa, gym, yoga pavilion and sauna nestle around the grounds, while bikes are available for guest use or you can opt for a short trek along one of the many surrounding jungle paths.

This resort is an excellent choice for those looking for a relaxed and exclusive hideaway. The location and facilities are excellent and we love the modern design, quirky architecture and contemporary styling.

Rooms

Finely crafted woodwork is a recurrent theme in the 34 stand-alone villas. Pale timber walls, floors and ceilings are offset by hand-dyed curtains, locally-embroidered cushions and rustic ceramics, all in muted earthy tones. Bamboo detailing, brass taps and views of the jungle or ocean complete the natural setting. The effect is very soothing and with indoor-outdoor seating areas, private gardens, terraces or pools and indulgent bathrooms with deep wooden baths and rain showers, it's easy to completely unwind here. Guests are also assigned a private butler and each villa has complimentary Wi-Fi, a TV and DVD player, and air conditioning.

Location

The hotel sits on a jungle-clad peninsula north of Nha Trang and can only be accessed by boat. The speedboat journey from Nha Trang takes about 15 minutes to reach the hotel. With a backdrop of thick jungle and views over a golden sand beach and turquoise bay, it's an impressive location to unwind. Boat transfers can take you to Nha Trang on the mainland any day during your stay.

Food and drink

The striking spherical Sen Restaurant overlooks the bay and provides a focal point for the whole hotel. The menu here features creative Vietnamese cuisine as well as Western options and is complemented by an open-fronted teppanyaki kitchen. During the day, a beach bar serves snacks, herbal teas, cold drinks and tropical smoothies, while in the evening, the Sunset Bar, cradled in the petals of the lotus-like restaurant roof, serves a wide range of cocktails.

Families

Children over 12 are accepted at the hotel year round. Under 12s can visit from June 15th to September 15th and during Vietnamese New Year (late January or early February).

Facilities and activities

The hotel's lagoon-like pool sits overlooking the beach and is surrounded by day beds. There is also a yoga platform, sauna and gym as well as a wood-lined Jungle Spa where the open-sided treatment rooms mean your massage, facial or detox treatment will be accompanied by the sound of a trickling stream and birdsong.
