We are looking for a really, seriously wonderful holiday of a lifetime for my sister's 40th birthday. It is in February and we would want to be warm. We have thought about all kinds of adventures but have had to rule many out as she has children that would come with us, the youngest of whom will be only a year by then. Money is no object, but a real wow factor is essential. Her husband isn't keen on South Africa or anywhere vaguely unsafe like Sri Lanka and Israel. Help!

Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands

If you are looking for a family friendly holiday of a lifetime catering for young children then Australia really is a superb option. The southern part of the country will be enjoying its summer weather and there are lots of wonderful self catering apartments throughout the country, this really makes travelling as a family so much easier.

Sydney is an amazing city with activities to entertain all ages and you are never far from a relaxing beach, a fun boat trip or an enjoyable museum, zoo or aquarium! Travelling by car in Australia is also very straight forward and means you follow your own timetable to fit around the children. This opens up the country for exploration and we would be very happy to chat you through the options.

Although we can include stop overs to make the flights more manageable I do appreciate Australia is a long way to travel with young children and my second suggestion would be Thailand. You could combine time between the cultural north and the stunning beaches of the south. In the north I would suggest basing yourselves at a resort style property and heading out for daily excursions such as river rafting. Finally a week on one of Thailand’s beaches at a luxury boutique hotel would be a brilliant finale to an amazing family holiday.
