Responsible Choice

We've hand-selected a range of tours and stays across the world that go above and beyond to be a force for good by supporting local businesses, educating staff, challenging local norms, or promoting conservation and biodiversity efforts. Your Responsible Choice helps increase the positive impact of your trip.

An ultra-exclusive private island stay, where every whim, want, and need is taken care of.

Bone-white sands and coral reefs encircle Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island, once a retreat for his own family. Here, Balinese-style houses are dotted among hilly greenery, interspersed by pools, bars, tennis courts, salt lakes, and hiking trails. And for most of the year, you and your friends and family can enjoy every inch of it all to yourselves — save for the 100-or-so members of staff who are on hand to make the island feel like home.

From wildlife conservationists to personal chefs, boat captains to masseuses, Necker Island’s team will help you do as much or as little as you desire during your stay. They might throw a themed dinner for a special occasion, take you to nearby coral gardens for a day of snorkeling, or create an oasis of calm for you to unwind beside the sea, soundtracked by the island breeze. It’s all for you to decide, each and every day.

OUR OPINION:

Necker Island is one of the most exclusive private islands in the world — but it’s also the epitome of barefoot luxury, where service is attentive without being stuffy, and spending uninterrupted time with friends and family is paramount.

Rooms

With far-reaching views over the sea and a scattering of other islands, The Great House sits at the highest point of Necker Island. Its sprawling Master Suite is house-sized in its own right, with a kitchenette, three terraces, a hot tub, and an outdoor shower. There are also several ocean-view rooms — all en suite — while social spaces include a large pool, bar, and clubhouse-style relaxation areas. Additionally, there’s a collection of other Balinese-style houses across the island, with separate social spaces and pools. In total, the island can sleep around 50 people and is available for exclusive use for most of the year.

Location

Fringed by coral reefs, Necker Island is set within the North Sound of the British Virgin Islands, a short boat journey from the airports on Beef Island and Virgin Gorda — though, naturally, there’s a helipad for speedier arrivals. The island’s sister property, the Branson Beach Estate, is just 3.2 km (two miles) away on Moskito Island, while private boats can take you to premier snorkeling spots and far-flung bars and yacht clubs, if you wish.

Environmental and social responsibility

Necker Island provides a habitat for more than 140 species of wildlife, including flamingoes, giant tortoises, and lemurs, and the property actively works to conserve and protect them. On-island wind and solar power generate renewable energy, while chefs source ingredients from local fishermen and farmers. Additionally, the property works with Virgin Unite and Unite BVI to support young people and promote environmental conservation.
