Villa and Palazzo Aminta is a lavishly decorated historic hotel overlooking the waters of Lake Maggiore. A highlight is the beautiful conservatory-style restaurant, I Mori, which features a huge Murano glass chandelier and offers panoramic views across the lake.

To the front of the property there’s an extensive terrace and garden complete with an excellent swimming pool, all overlooking the lake below. Across the road toward the lake, there is a second garden area complete with a small private beach, sunloungers, umbrellas, and the hotel’s private jetty. Underneath the property there is a spa complex with an amazing thermal grotto, built into natural caves.

OUR OPINION:

Villa Aminta is a wonderful property that offers high levels of luxury alongside welcoming and friendly service. The spa here is a particular highlight.

Rooms

Each of the rooms at Villa Aminta is lavishly decorated with draped fabrics, thick carpets or smart parquet floors, and charming antiques. All the rooms have a classical feel, ornamented with opulent decor and goose down quilts. There’s also a pillow menu available if you have a particular preference. All the rooms have either a private terrace or balcony and those on the front of the hotel offer views out across the lake. All rooms have air-conditioning, Wi-Fi and a TV.

Location

Villa Aminta has a beautiful setting, overlooking the Borromean Gulf. Surrounding the hotel, you’ll find numerous historical villas and wonderful gardens leading down to the lake shore. The hotel’s shuttle service can take you into the middle of Stresa in around ten minutes, where you’ll find the public ferry dock. For a private excursion, the hotel has its own jetty.

Food and drink

Breakfast is served in the stuccoed Le Isole restaurant dining room with views across the lake and outdoor terrace seating to the front. During the day, lunch and dinner are also on offer here. In the evening, the I Mori gazebo restaurant offers more formal dining with a menu of local and Mediterranean based cuisine.

Facilities and activities

There’s a heated outdoor swimming pool and a private beach area as well as an extensive spa inside the hotel. The highlight is the grotto complex, built into the natural caves underneath the hotel, where you’ll find sensory showers, a steam bath, and relaxation whirlpool. If you want to head into Stresa, there is a complimentary hotel shuttle on offer.
