Mia

Canada Specialist

My passion for travel was sparked at a young age by family holidays to incredible destinations such as Morocco and Mauritius. These early experiences instilled in me a deep curiosity about the world and a love for exploring new cultures.

This passion truly flourished during my time at university, where I studied French and spent a transformative year living in the South of France. That year was filled with unforgettable adventures, from discovering hidden gems across France to exploring neighbouring European countries.

I first visited Canada on a family holiday, and I fell instantly in love with the country's natural beauty and warm-hearted people. Since joining Audley, I’ve had the opportunity to explore Canada in greater depth, from the charming cities of eastern Canada to the dramatic landscapes of the Rockies in the west. Some of my highlights include bear watching in Whistler and wandering through the picturesque streets of Québec City.

Q&A with Mia

Toronto skyline from the water, Ontario

What tips would you give for people who want to visit your specialty destination?

Canada is a vast and diverse country, so one of my top tips is to pack with the seasons and distances in mind. On my last visit, I underestimated the chill of early summer mornings in the mountains, and I regretted not packing a coat. Whether you're hiking in the Rockies or exploring the vibrant cities of Toronto and Montréal, it's important to pack for varied weather conditions.

Where would you love to travel next?

I’d love to visit Alaska as it's stunning landscapes and varied wildlife feels like the perfect escape into nature. I love animals and watching bears in action during the salmon run at Katmai National Park has been at the top of my bucket list for a long time.

Mia on Athabasca Glacier, Canada

What's your most vivid travel moment?

My most vivid travel memory was hiking the Athabasca Glacier along the Icefields Parkway. Stepping onto the ice felt like entering another world, with the vast expanse of blue ice stretching endlessly before me. As I trekked across the icy expanse, I could hear the crunch of my crampons against the frozen surface and feel the chill of the glacial wind on my face. The surrounding mountains provided a stunning backdrop, and their peaks were dusted with snow even in summer. It was a powerful reminder of nature’s age and beauty, and an experience I’ll never forget.
