Connor visiting Mehtab Bagh in Agra, India

Connor

Indian Specialist

I first knew I’d been bitten by the travel bug on a volunteering trip to Tanzania at 17. Sitting round a campfire in the middle of the Serengeti under a thousand stars, swapping stories with my Maasai guide and listening to the sounds of the bush all around me — in that moment I’d never felt further from home, and I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

This passion led me to join the travel industry in 2018, and has taken me to over forty countries, but there’s one that keeps me coming back time and again: India. From the grand forts and energetic markets of the North to the rolling tea plantations and serene backwaters of the South, it’s a country of extremes, contradictions, and surprises — one you’ll never forget.

Working at Audley allows me to share my passion for this incredible country, and I’m grateful that I can help people make memories there.

Q&A with Connor

Laal maas

What’s the best local dish you’ve tasted?

The laal maas at the rooftop restaurant, ‘Indique,’ in Jodhpur is easily one of the best things I’ve ever eaten. It’s a fiery, rich mutton curry, and the chef there has a special recipe which gives it a unique smoky flavour. Pair this with the restaurant’s ‘blue cheese naan’ (just give it a go I promise) and you’re on to a winner.

Jama Masjid Mosque, Delhi

What’s your most vivid travel moment?

I’ll never forget my first visit to Delhi’s largest mosque, Jama Masjid. It’s on a hill in the heart of Old Delhi, and from the steps leading up to it, you have the most incredible views over the surrounding markets. Standing there, as the sun set and the call to prayer carried past on the wind, I watched the beautifully organised chaos of Old Delhi unfold around me. Hawkers peddling wares, tuk-tuks honking, people streaming in every which way, cows and monkeys weaving through it all — it was everything and anything all at once, and it’s a memory I’ll never forget.

Toy train to Ooty (Blue Mountain Railway), Coonoor

What’s the one thing you always pack?

Eye mask. I’m a man who needs his beauty sleep, and with an eye mask, I'm able to sleep anywhere at any time. Plane? Train? 5-hour car journey? Brightly lit airport while I'm on a long layover? No problem, I’ve got my eye mask.
