Monteverdi feels more like a beautifully preserved hilltop hamlet than a hotel, and a stay here gives you an authentic Tuscan experience.
Each of the rooms have been sensitively incorporated into the existing houses and buildings of Castiglioncello del Trinoro — a tiny rural village. There's a charming little enoteca (wine bar) in the square next to the church, while the hotel’s fine dining restaurant and breakfast room is nestled down one of the winding side streets. Between each of the houses, pretty terraced gardens offer tranquil spots in which to rest in the sunshine and enjoy the incredible views or relax by the pool.

Photos of Monteverdi
Offering the ultimate Tuscan experience, we especially love the rustic elegance and understated luxury offered at Monteverdi, as well as the incredible views.
Each of the luxurious rooms and suites at Monteverdi have been impeccably designed in a chic rustic style that effortlessly complements their historic surroundings. The rooms themselves are scattered throughout the hamlet in original buildings, and from the outside it’s almost impossible to tell which belong to the hotel and which still house residents of the village. Rooms here can be booked individually or linked together to create a selection of self-contained villas. All rooms offer Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, a safe and flat-screen TV.
Monteverdi is situated within the tiny hilltop village of Castiglioncello del Trinoro in southern Tuscany, around two hours by road from both Florence and Rome. Access is via a dirt road that winds up through vineyards, olive groves and, eventually, woodland as you climb to 800 m (2,624 ft) above sea level. From here, you can enjoy sweeping panoramic views of the landscape below.
Food and drink
A continental buffet breakfast is served each morning in the Oreade restaurant, which features a selection of both indoor and outdoor seating. The restaurant also offers a fine dining menu of seasonal Tuscan dishes and is open for lunch and dinner. Alternatively, the wine bar is open for lunch and apertivi, with a wide range of wines and pleasant outdoor seating in the central village square next to the church.
Facilities and activities
A highlight of the property is the beautiful hillside pool, nestled within the immaculate terraced gardens. The spa offers a range of excellent treatments and is built right into the hillside, boasting spectacular views. Guests can also use the spa's private outdoor plunge pool, and there's a separate gym. Tuscan cooking courses and wine tasting can also be enjoyed during your stay.
