Villa Cicolina

Villa Cicolina

Italy

The main house at Villa Cicolina is bathed in pink-ochre and surrounded on all sides by beautiful gardens and olive groves. Previously a country retreat for a local noble family, the building has been tastefully renovated and many of the original frescoes restored.

Within the grounds, you’ll find the original private chapel that would have been used by the family, and plenty of grassy areas shaded by olive trees where you can relax with a book. The highlight, though, is the infinity pool, which drops away at the end of the lawn and offers spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. Inside the house itself is a charming sitting room and small corridors lined with frescoes.

OUR OPINION:

A wonderful option in the Tuscan countryside, Villa Cicolina is a charming and friendly property. We found the beautiful gardens and extensive wine cellars to be particular highlights.

Rooms

The majority of the rooms at Villa Cicolina are located within the main house and accessed by a single steep staircase that winds up through the building. Being within such an historic building, each room has its own style and character and is decorated in tasteful Tuscan fashion with many charming antique pieces. The bathrooms are well-equipped and functional. All the rooms vary in size, and there are a number of double rooms and Junior Suites that can accommodate an extra bed. Outside of the main house is a separate Suite plus a two-bedroom Cottage Suite, both of which are located in the gardens nearby.

Location

Just outside of Montepulciano and surrounded by swathes of olive groves and vineyards, Villa Cicolina offers a wonderfully peaceful retreat from the modern world. Around an hour southeast of Siena, the property is located in some of Tuscany’s most beautiful countryside.

Food and drink

Breakfast is offered in the beautiful converted barn across the courtyard from the main house. The hearty buffet includes fruit, cereal, cold meats and cheeses, bread and pastries along with modest hot options. During the day, it becomes a small restaurant offering traditional Tuscan fare and, when the weather is warm, guests can eat at one of the many little iron tables outside.

Facilities and activities

Nestled within the property’s immaculate gardens and surrounded by olive trees, the small infinity pool offers spectacular views across the surrounding countryside. If you are keen to try something creative during your stay, traditional Tuscan cooking classes are on offer at the property (we recommend booking in advance) as well as wine and cheese tasting sessions in the incredible cellars underneath the villa.
