Experiencing new places, cultures, and food is definitely my preferred way to spend time, whether it’s solo, with family, or with friends. My fondest memories have been made exploring the world, and I always have a list of places to visit next.
Japan had my heart from the first meal I had on arrival, a bento box and a cutlet sando. I would argue that there isn't a better train meal available, and I urge you to try it yourself.
The food scene in Japan may have captivated me; however, there’s an endless list of phenomenal places to see, whether you are looking for nature or culture. The iconic seasons of pink and white cherry blossoms and golden autumn foliage are truly spectacular. My chosen time to visit Japan is in the autumn with beautiful blue skies and golden maple leaves.

Q&A with Octavia
What’s your most vivid travel moment?
Recently, I embarked on a trip to Tanzania to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Although it was at times very challenging, it was also one of my most incredible experiences, and the views are something I won’t easily forget. It's worth stepping out of your comfort zone from time to time to experience new things.
Your best piece of travel advice?
When exploring Japan, I would definitely recommend a pair of comfy and easy-to-remove shoes. My step count was consistently high in Japan, averaging over 20,000 steps a day. Easy-to-remove shoes are a must, as they’ll need to be removed multiple times throughout the day, for shrines, temples, and even in some restaurants. Also, make sure to travel with a half-full suitcase, so you have space to bring home all those delicious ingredients and chopsticks for everyone; otherwise, you may need to buy a new bag out there.
What’s the best local dish you’ve tasted?
The best dish is impossible to choose, but some of my preferred foods from Japan include yakitori, particularly chicken, ramen with miso, and yakiniku, which often features a generous amount of Wagyu and Kobe beef. I have yet to have a bad meal in Japan.
