Britannia Hotel

Britannia Hotel

Norway

The Britannia Hotel is the only 5-star property in Trondheim, featuring award-winning restaurants including one Michelin star (six in total — Trondheim is food capital of Norway), in a historic building built in 1870 to house British aristocrats who visited Trondheim for salmon fishing. The hotel offers sophisticated décor, luxury, a central location and excellent service.

OUR OPINION:

Britannia is the city’s most sophisticated stay. We love the central location, exquisite service, and the modern take on the hotel’s original style, as well as the excellent dining options.

Rooms

The rooms and suites all share a sumptuous style, with cool greys and warm creams, richly textured textiles, and splashes of gold to highlight the neo-Jazz Age style. You’ll find generously sized handmade beds, marble bathrooms, and plenty of light. The historic nature of the hotel means the rooms aren’t particularly spacious, but the soaring ceilings and generous windows mean they retain an airy feeling.

For a particular indulgence, try a stay in the Tower Suite, complete with turret and grand piano.

Location

Right in the heart of the neo-gothic Dronningens Gate quarter, Britannia Hotel is just a ten-minute walk to Trondheim’s major sights, including Nidaros Cathedral, Nidelva River, and the cafés and boutiques of Bakklandet district. The hotel is a 30-minute drive from the city’s airport and just a ten-minute walk from Trondheim Central Station.
