Your honeymoon is the first of many unique journeys you and your new spouse will share in your married life together. We’ve talked to our country specialists and compiled our best suggestions for the top honeymoon destinations in 2015.

Beach honeymoon

A beach honeymoon is right for you if…

To you, the word 'honeymoon' is synonymous with warm weather and relaxation. You dream of escaping with your loved one to an island with blue water for miles where no one can reach you. If you crave some much-needed rest after the long process of planning a wedding, a beach escape is the perfect fit for you.

Our recommendation: Honeymoon to Fiji

Best accommodation: The Likuliku Hotel on the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands.

Recommended by Alison, one of our Australasia specialists, this beautiful resort is the only accommodation in Fiji with overwater bures (wood and straw huts), and is only accessible by air or boat, ensuring a truly romantic getaway.

Recommended activities: Beach lounging and sunset walks for relaxation, and some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving in the world.

Best beach tour: The Tabua Tour, which takes you along the beautiful Coral Coast where you’ll see picturesque valleys, a hidden waterfall in the rainforest and to the relaxing sands of Natadola Beach.

When to go: May through to September

Adventure honeymoon

An adventure honeymoon is right for you if…

You and your soon-to-be spouse don‘t like to stay still for too long and love to explore. You‘re self-proclaimed 'outdoorsy' people, and you‘d rather hike up a picturesque mountain than lie on a beach all day.

Our recommendation: Honeymoon to Costa Rica

Suggested activities: White-water rafting on the Pacuare River, zip-lining through Selvatura Park, canyoning in Turrialba and hiking historic volcanoes.

Recommended hikes:

Easy to moderate: Arenal Volcano, where you’ll catch a glimpse of the stunning daily eruptions of molten lava.

Moderate to difficult: Cerro Chato, where on clear days you can witness fantastic views across the San Carlos Valley.

Best swimming hole: La Fortuna Waterfall, where you can take a romantic dip at the foot of the falls.

When to go: December through to April

Safari honeymoon

A safari honeymoon is right for you if…

The only thing you've dreamt of more than your wedding day is spotting the 'Big Five' (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant and buffalo) on an exotic safari. Step outside your natural habitat and see wildlife roam free on a tailor-made safari honeymoon.

Our recommendation: Honeymoon to Tanzania

Suggested wildlife tour: The famous Serengeti National Park, home to the annual migration and unparalleled wildlife spectacles from hyenas to elephants.

Recommended activity: Should the Serengeti be your park of choice, book a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the land for an unforgettable memory.

When to go: July through October

Cultural honeymoon

A cultural honeymoon is best for you if…

Your shared love of exploring new cultures is just one of the traits that you and your future spouse have in common. Whether it’s trekking through ancient ruins or immersing yourself in a foreign culture, you want to soak in every bit of the nation you’re visiting.

Our recommendation: Honeymoon to Thailand

Suggested cultural activity: Wat Pho and The Grand Palace, where you can experience the monks’ early morning chanting rituals, visit the temple grounds and the famous 45 meter reclining Buddha, and explore Thailand’s renowned landmark; The Grand Palace.

Recommended active adventure: Bang Krao Jao cycle tour. Explore this Bangkok area on bicycle and cycle through small villages, temples, waterways, jungle and even an incense factory.

Best honeymoon add-on: A stay at the beautiful and romantic Song Saa Private Island in Cambodia, a special recommendation from our specialist Julie.

When to go: November through March
