Viroth's Hotel

Viroth's Hotel

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Sleek, chic and urbane, Viroth's Hotel is set in a clean-cut contemporary building that echoes the sharp lines and uncluttered style of the Modernist era. Inside, mid-century styling with vintage furniture, dark terrazzo floors, a curvaceous feature staircase and splashes of teal or mustard give an air of retro-chic.

The hotel is set around a leafy central courtyard with the lobby, bar, restaurant and rooms overlooking the large pool which sits at its heart. The 35 rooms are understated but stylish with dark floors set against white walls and linens, teak furniture and carefully-chosen local curios. All have a private balcony.

The glass-enclosed restaurant spills out onto a leafy terrace and serves both seasonal Khmer cuisine and international dishes, while the buzzy bar is a glamorous place to hang out with a cocktail. The hotel also has a gym and a small spa with three treatment rooms, while the intimate library and lounge make a stylish retreat for a quiet drink.

Viroth's Hotel is conveniently located on a quiet street in the up-and-coming Wat Bo area. It's a short walk to the river and across the bridge to central Siem Reap and the bustling bars and restaurants of the Old Market area await.

The chic, unfussy rooms feature the same retro styling as the rest of the hotel with stark white walls and linens set against dark floors and mid-century furniture. Accents of teal, mustard, olive or a dusky russet in the soft furnishings add a dash of understated zeal, while carefully-staged curios, carvings, pots or trunks add individual style. The shower rooms are compact but well equipped, while the suites are far more spacious and have a bath as well as shower. All rooms have a private balcony, satellite TV, air conditioning, coffee machine and complimentary Wi-Fi.

The hotel sits on quiet street in the up-and-coming Wat Bo area, just across the river from the buzzing Old Market district where bars, restaurants and affordable hotels are clustered. It's a 20-minute tuk-tuk ride from the entrance to the Angkor temples and a 15-minute drive from the airport. The hotel offers a complimentary transfer service from the airport in a vintage Mercedes.
