Middle Beach Lodge is a cozy retreat that offers you comfort along with great service only 3 km (2 miles) from the maritime village of Tofino. Fronting the ocean, the hotel’s communal spaces have a simple and homely feel, inviting you to pick a book from the shelves or play one of the board games on hand for your use. You can help yourself to a selection of tea and coffee in the communal living room throughout the day.

The guest rooms’ decor is contemporary yet environmentally minded, and you can appreciate the natural setting of ocean and forest all around you from your balcony.

Aiming to cater to both families and couples, the lodge is split into the adults-only Lodge at the Beach and the more family-focused Lodge at the Headlands.

Among the activities you can take part in are yoga and water-based pursuits to make the most of the coast on your doorstep, such as surfing lessons, whale watching, kayaking and paddleboarding.

OUR OPINION:

This property has a lovely location nestled among windswept trees. Views therefore vary, as some are obstructed or partially obstructed by vegetation. It is important to note that accommodation is very simple and of a somewhat rustic and weather-beaten appearance, in keeping with the wild location.

Rooms

The lodge divides into two sections: the family-orientated Lodge at the Headlands and the adults-only Lodge at the Beach. The Lodge at the Beach’s ground-floor rooms either look onto the forest or ocean. Simple and peaceful with a balcony for you to enjoy the view, they avoid modern trappings such as a TV or phone. The rooms in the Lodge at the Headlands adopt a similar TV- and phone-free attitude. Here, you can choose between ground- or first-floor rooms overlooking the water. The ground-floor rooms have a standing balcony, while those on the first floor allow enough space for sitting out. 

Location

Occupying a rocky headland on Vancouver Island, Middle Beach Lodge prides itself as a peaceful retreat. You have almost a mile of sandy beaches at your disposal, and within a short drive you arrive in the easy-going coastal village of Tofino, with its choice of cafés, restaurants and bars, and maritime history. 

Food and drink

Breakfast, a continental buffet, comes as part of the package. A buffet-style dinner is served nightly in the summer season in the dining area of the Lodge at the Headlands. On the menu, you can expect dishes made with locally sourced ingredients paired with native British Columbia wines.

Middle Beach Lodge can arrange a variety of activities and outings in the locality. You could opt to join yoga or surfing lessons, rent equipment to go kayaking or paddleboarding, or embark on trips to see the local wildlife.
