Palermo’s history is deeply rooted in the ancient Mediterranean world that also shaped the stories of Homer’s Odyssey. Known in antiquity as Panormus, the city was founded by the Phoenicians and later influenced by Greek culture, placing it within the same Sicilian landscape that Odysseus is said to have explored on his mythical journey. Spend the afternoon exploring the streets of Palermo and maybe take an aperitivo in Piazza San Domenico or dinner at a trattoria.

Today you will head to Segesta, Trapani, and Erice with your private driver and guide. The dramatic temple ruins at Segesta are truly impressive. Once the main stronghold of the ancient Elymian people, this site offers a fascinating insight into life in ancient times. You'll then descend towards the coastal town of Trapani. The area is known for its ancient and picturesque salt pans, with salt production believed to date back as far as the 12th century. Your next stop is the captivating medieval stronghold of Erice, perched dramatically atop a steep mountain overlooking the port of Trapani. To reach the summit, you’ll take a short cable car ride, during which you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape.
-
Your private driver will take you to Taormina. Ancient Taormina, perched high above Sicily’s eastern coast, was one of the island’s most important Greek and later Roman settlements. Originally founded by Greek colonists in the 4th century BC, it flourished thanks to its strategic position overlooking the Ionian Sea and Mount Etna. The town became a cultural and political centre, particularly under Roman rule, when it was known as "Tauromenium". Settle into your hotel and spend some time exploring the city.
-
Mount Etna dominates eastern Sicily with its brooding presence and is Europe’s largest active volcano. It has long held a place in mythology, believed to be home to the Cyclops Polyphemus and the forge of the Roman god Vulcan. Reaching the upper slopes involves a cable car, offering you views of dramatic craters and lunar-like scenery. After descending, the experience is perfectly rounded off with a wine tasting, as Etna’s rich soils produce some of Sicily’s most distinctive wines.
-
The Aeolian Islands are steeped in myth and legend and are famously linked to Homer's Odyssey. According to the epic poem, Odysseus visited the realm of Aeolus, the keeper of the winds, making these volcanic islands a place where history, culture and mythology come vividly to life. You'll visit the island of Lipari and learn about its history and culture while sampling some of the best Aeolian wines.
-
On route to the airport, you'll make a stop at Cefalù whose history reflects a strong blend of Greek influence and later Mediterranean cultures. Originally settled by the Greeks, who named it Kephaloidion, it served as an important coastal outpost overlooking key sea routes. It’s time to travel to Greece. A private transfer will take you to Palermo Airport, where you'll board a short flight to Athens. Enjoy views of the Acropolis from your private transfer to your hotel, where you can relax and unwind after your journey.
-
You'll embark on a tour of Athens's legendary ancient marvels today, some standing formidably above the city since the Bronze Age. Learn about the mythology, gods and heroes that underpin Homer's epic poem, including the Parthenon, dedicated to Athena, Odysseus's divine protector, as well as the Acropolis Museum for stunning storytelling through art.
-
Today, collect your hire car for a journey west towards the Peloponnese for your second destination of Nafplio. En route, you'll stop to explore the archaeological site of Mycenae, once home to the sophisticated Mycenaean civilisation. You'll encounter the tomb of Agamemnon, king of Mycenae and cautionary tale for Odysseus, before continuing on to tour Epidavros, a remarkably well-preserved ancient Greek theatre. After your tour, continue your drive south to Nafplio for some relaxation at your hotel.
-
Welcome to Nafplio, where you're promised a rich blend of history and authentic beauty. Spend the morning exploring the bougainvillea-draped streets before setting off on a kayaking adventure down the coast. Along with your private guide, paddle to rocky inlets and hidden coves, as well as the sunken remains of a Roman villa, a real highlight of the day.
-
Head back to Athens today to board a short flight to Corfu, known for lush landscapes and its historic Old Town. Check into your hotel and enjoy an evening at leisure.
-
Join a guided exploration of the historic village of Chlomos, whose ruins date back to pre-Christian times. You’ll then continue to Governor’s Olive Mill, learning about the rich olive cultivation process. You’ll finish your tour, of course, with a tasting session, pairing extra virgin olive oil with delicious local bites and wine.
-
Today you'll visit the island's key sites, including the UNESCO World Heritage Old Town and Paleokastritsa, where Odysseus first landed in Greece. You'll also explore the Palace of Acheillon, home to frescoes depicting scenes from the Trojan War.
-
Bid farewell to your mythological adventure and board your flight home.
