Macushla is a small, owner-managed guesthouse with a warm, homely feel. There are two lounges where guests can play board games or read a book from the library about the local culture, as well as a self-service bar.

A swimming pool provides relief during the warmer months, and vervet monkeys are known to swing from the branches around the hotel walls.

While Macushla doesn’t provide many activities, it’s conveniently located a short drive from the Giraffe Centre, the Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi National Park and the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

OUR OPINION:

Macushla is a good value option given its convenience for the airport and location in the charming Karen Blixen area. Ideal for transfers following an arrival or preceding a departure from the airport, Macushla is both charming and welcoming for those experiencing Kenya.

Rooms

There are just six standard double or twin rooms, all of which are en suite. Each room is decorated simply with local furniture, and the floors are adorned with colorful rugs. There's also a separate cottage toward the boundaries of the property that's particularly recommended for families.

Location

Situated in the upscale area of Karen, Macushla is hidden from all the other estates and hotels that the neighborhood has long been associated with. The property is precisely 18 kilometers from Nairobi city center and 30 kilometers from Jomo Kenyatta Airport, making it a good value, practical option for guests looking for a quick transfer to the airport.

Food and drink

Guests typically stay here on a bed and breakfast basis. Meals are unfussy, with lunch and dinner served à la carte in the indoor dining room. There's also a bar serving a variety of beverages.

Families

Macushla is suitable for guests of all ages. Children would enjoy visiting the Giraffe Centre close by, where they can observe and maybe even feed the endangered Rothschild's giraffes.

Facilities and activities

A laundry service is available for an extra charge. Guests can also make use of the outdoor swimming pool and the cozy study/library.
