Villa Maly
Villa Maly, Luang Prabang, Laos
Only 20 minutes drive from the international airport, Villa Maly is centrally located and therefore within walking distance of the main historical attractions and places of interest in Luang Prabang, including the nightly street market. The original building (now housing the lobby and bar) was built in 1938 by HRH Khamtan Ounkham, the grandson of a Lao King. It was occupied by American forces during the Vietnam War, but remained within the Royal Family until the 1990s.
With wooden parquet floors, four poster beds, mahogany armoires and ornate lamps, the 33 guest rooms combine Art Deco style with a French colonial elegance. All rooms have a television and minibar, air-conditioning and ensuite shower rooms. Villa Maly's restaurant, Le Vetiver, serves a range of western and local favorites, including a traditional Sindat (Lao BBQ). There are also a number of restaurants within walking distance.
