Chobe Princess Safariboat

Chobe Princess Safariboat

Chobe River Front, Namibia

The Chobe Princess Safariboats are the sister boats to the famous Zambezi Queen and offer simple on-board accommodation in a beautiful setting on the Chobe River.

There are three Chobe Princess boats on the river, the biggest of which has five cabins, and the others just four, so a personal experience is guaranteed. The boats depart on scheduled two or three night sailings throughout the year.

OUR OPINION:

A stay on a Chobe Princess is a great option for those looking for an alternative view of the Chobe region. The river is quiet and any game viewing will be away from other vehicles. The boats offer a relaxing, no frills way to see the birds and wildlife of Chobe from the water. Spending time here is more about the experience than it is the accommodation and we have found that a 'go with the flow' attitude makes for an enjoyable stay.

Rooms

The cabins are small and simple but are well equipped with comfortable beds, en suite showers and air-conditioning, plus large windows to enjoy the river views.

Location

The Chobe River forms the boundary between northern Botswana and Namibia. All houseboats are obliged to moor within Namibian waters, yet activities tend to take place on the opposite side, along the banks of Chobe National Park. It's important to note that the houseboat itself does not move very far along the river, instead opting to move up and down the same spot depending on where the best wildlife is to be seen.

In order to access the houseboats it's required to pass through Namibian immigration prior to arriving at the boat. Transfers will commence from Kasane, in Botswana, with a short road transfer to the jetty. A speedboat will then take you to Impalila Island to complete immigration controls before continuing along the river to the houseboat.

Food and drink

Food is simple yet wholesome. Most meals are served on the open-sided top deck allowing uninterrupted views of the river. All meals and most drinks are included in your stay, with the exception of premium brand alcoholic drinks.

Families

Children of all ages are welcome on-board the Chobe Princess houseboats.

Facilities and activities

The upper deck of each boat houses the communal lounge, bar and dining areas. Sun loungers adorn the front deck from where we recommend enjoying some spectacular stargazing. Each of the Chobe Princesses has a couple of small tender boats which are used for the daily river excursions in search of some of the 450 species of birds and larger wildlife such as elephant and buffalo that roam the riverbanks. Fishing trips are available, as well as photographic safaris.
