Okonjima Plains Camp

Okonjima is located in the Omboroko Mountains. It is owned by the Hanseen family and is the center of the AfriCat Foundation, which aims to rescue, relocate and rehabilitate cheetah and leopard. Okonjima own several farms up in the mountains, split into very large enclosures where cheetah and leopard roam. It is an excellent program and is a good place to get close to big cats and learn about them. Photographers will appreciate the chance to get some dramatic close up shots.

There are two lodges on the farm: Okonjima Plains Camp and Okonjima Bush Camp. Okonjima Plains Camp has 24 comfortable rooms, comprising 14 Standard rooms around the main lawn and 10 View rooms located a short walk from the main area. The View rooms each have a veranda overlooking the Okonjima bush-veldt. Each room has double or twin beds, bright African fabrics and en suite bathroom. The dining room is under thatch and excellent meals are served. The main lodge is very near a lion enclosure and you may well hear them roaring both during the day and at night.

Activities from Okonjima include drives to track the leopard and view the cheetah and to learn more about AfriCat's work. Guests can also visit the night hide which is frequented by porcupines and other nocturnal animals.
