Visit Annapurna, Nepal
Jump to:
The Annapurna region is north west of Kathmandu and is dominated by the huge peaks of the Annapurna range, including Annapurna I, which, at an altitude of 8,091m, is the tenth highest mountain in the world.
Pokhara
The lakeside town of Pokhara has fantastic views of the mountains, is the main hub in this region, and is easily accessible by road and plane, unlike the majority of the region, much of which is only accessible by trekking. Pokhara is the start point for many treks in this region, including the comfortable lodge treks in the Modi Khola valley and the remote treks to the Kingdom of Mustang, as well as a number of good day walks.
Comfortable Lodges
Experience a different kind of stay in one of four 'luxury lodges' located in the Annapurna Region of Nepal in stunning surroundings.
These are Sanctuary Lodge in Birethanti, Basanta Lodge in Dhampus, Himalaya Lodge in Ghandruk and Gurung Lodge in Tanchock. All four lodges are within a three to eight hour walk from one another, depending on the route, speed of walking and number of stops. Any number of these lodges can be combined to make comfortable treks of varying lengths, from one night up to a week (with a few rest days added in).
All the lodges are very environmentally friendly, and most electricity and heating is generated by a combination of solar power and village electricity schemes. The rooms are simple, with twin beds and attached bathrooms, and despite a lack of mod-cons, are very comfortable.
The lodges are all exceptionally well run, very clean, and the fantastic staff, their attentiveness, the delicious food and the cozy fire in each of the lodges, more than compensates for the simplicity of the rooms. Hot water bottles in your bed each night and 'bed tea' in the morning only adds to the experience!
