Stretching for 77 km, the historic Taieri Gorge Railway traverses spectacular changes of scenery, taking you on a journey through the rugged Taieri River Gorge. Appreciate the history of the railway as you travel over wrought iron viaducts and through hand-carved tunnels which are over 100 years old.
You will enjoy a full on-board commentary and several stops along the way to take photographs, and whether it is rainy or fine you will be able to admire the beautiful waterfalls, streams and flora of the region.
You will travel in either a modern or a traditional carriage, both allowing fantastic views as you travel through the Gorge, and you can purchase refreshments from the snack bar car.
The half day trip will bring you back into Dunedin in the evening, although it is also possible to combine this trip with transport through to Queenstown.
