Abbey Manor Guest House, Cape Town

Abbey Manor Guest House

Cape Town, South Africa

The guesthouse occupies a beautiful location on the foothills of Table Mountain, offering spectacular views over Cape Town. Built in 1905, every inch of this five star Georgian home is sumptuously furnished to a high level of comfort and with meticulous attention to detail. The impressive stained-glass windows are a particularly impressive feature of this property.

There are several elegant lounge areas, including a library with a fully-stocked honesty bar, inviting guests to socialize over a glass of local wine. Alternatively, head up to the delightful roof terrace for an afternoon sundowner, taking in stunning views of Table Mountain. The owners, Doris and Dirk, also manage the guesthouse and go out of their way to ensure your stay is flawless.

OUR OPINION:

This is one of our favorite guesthouses in Cape Town, providing a real home-away-from-home. The level of service from the staff and the stunning Table Mountain backdrop will make your stay an unforgettable one.

Rooms

Each of the rooms has a unique, luxurious style reflecting the lavish times of a bygone era. All are well-equipped with modern amenities, including air conditioning, satellite TVs, Wi-Fi, minibars and tea/coffee facilities. There are two categories to choose from: Luxury rooms, which have either a double bed or twin beds and views of the mountains or the city; and Grand rooms, which are located in the attic, offering wonderful views and more space, with the option to add an extra roll-away bed to accommodate a child.

Location

Oranjezicht is a tranquil and upscale residential suburb situated on the foothills of Table Mountain. Cape Town’s famous Kloof Street, known as 'restaurant mile', is just a 15-minute walk from the guesthouse. Many of the city's other popular landmarks, such as the V&A Waterfront and the beaches of Camps Bay, are accessible within a short drive.

Food and drink

Guests have a choice of a continental or full English breakfast each morning. The guesthouse doesn't provide guests with an afternoon or evening dining option, but the concierge is more than happy to recommend local restaurants. Will’s Café, La Frasca, Societi Bistro, Aubergine and Millers’ Thumb are all good eatery options within walking distance.

Facilities and activities

Guests can relax on sun loungers by the solar heated pool, or curl up with a book in the lounge. There's also the rooftop terrace — the perfect place to sip a drink at sunset.

Accessibility

Please be aware that, being so close to Table Mountain, Abbey Manor is set on a hill so there are quite a few steps up to the property and up to the rooms. If you arrive during the day, staff will help you to carry your bags. However, if you arrive after 5pm you may have to manage on your own.

Local excursions

Take a cable car up to Table Mountain, visit the famous V&A Waterfront or ride Cape Town's hop-on, hop-off bus. You can also take a pleasant stroll through Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens, or travel on a Cape Peninsula Tour to view the magnificent Cape Point, where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet.
