I would like to take my wife to the USA for a surprise holiday (it would be her first trip to the USA) ideally visiting New York, Washington and some kind of Midwest tour taking in Yellowstone and perhaps canyon country. This could include a rail journey and maybe self drive. It would be in late July/August next year. What could you suggest please for a 10-15 day holiday along these lines?

Discovering New York City by helicopter

Answer

New York City would be the perfect way to start your trip. From the iconic landmarks such as the Empire State Building to shopping on Fifth Avenue, there is something for everyone in the Big Apple.

Having recently returned from New York and the Capital Region; I can recommend lots to do. I would start with four nights in New York City and include a thrilling helicopter flight over Manhattan, followed by a short train journey to the nation's capital; Washington D.C. where I'd suggest you stay for three nights. New York City and Washington D.C. differ in character and there is a huge array of museums, galleries, landmarks and monuments to visit.

After your first week in these two incredible cities, you could take a flight to Jackson, Wyoming. A lovely town located in the scenic Rocky Mountains and the best place from which to explore both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. A car gives you the greatest flexibility and the opportunity to stay overnight in some of Yellowstone's historic accommodation. As well as the mountain scenery and geothermal activity, these national parks are also excellent for viewing wildlife, such as bison, elk, antelope, bears and wolves.

An alternative option is to visit the National Parks of the Southwest. As well as the incredible Grand Canyon, a week in this area will give you the opportunity to visit some of the lesser known gems, such as Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park and Monument Valley.

If you would like to talk about an itinerary in more detail, please get in touch and I will be delighted to help.
