"Gorilla, chimps, leopard, hippo: amazing!"

After a recent trip to Uganda, Emily Iles shared some of her photos with us, including the wonderful shot above of a "thoughtful" silverback named Kanyonyi. Following the death of his predecessor at the age of 51, he leads a group of gorillas at the age of 17.

"I enjoyed gorilla tracking in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and was lucky enough to visit the Mubare gorilla group," Emily says. "I also saw chimps at Kibale National Park and other amazing wildlife — including hyena, leopard, hippo, antelope and elephant — in Queen Elizabeth National Park."

"The country is an amazing place to visit," she continues. "The hospitality of people in the lodges, as well as out in the local villages, is first rate. I travelled alone and did not feel uncomfortable at any stage of my journey. I put this down to the overall friendliness and professionalism of all those involved."
