Our Southeast Asia team are raising funds for the Goodwill Centre in Cambodia and Paya Ngoto School, Myanmar, this year. Our ties with the school go back to 2008, after it was damaged by Cyclone Nargis.
Back in May 2008, we decided to raise money to rebuild Paya Ngoto School in Myanmar after Cyclone Nargis hit.
We wanted to support it as a long-term project, rather than just renovate the school and walk away. To date, we’ve raised well over £11,000. And our clients are often keen to play their part.
In November last year, Mrs W Jones traveled with Jake, one of our Myanmar specialists, to visit the staff and pupils at Paya Ngoto School. After Ms Jones returned, her niece Rhian called to say she would like to make a £100 donation to the school as a Christmas present to her aunt after finding out about the good work being done there.
Jake spoke to the teachers at the school about how the donation could be spent. The pupils really needed new school uniforms (two sets each) as well as stationery and textbooks, at a cost of around £230. We made up the £130 difference so the school could go ahead and buy these much-needed items (see photos below).
