The InterContinental O.R.Tambo is a comfortable hotel with a contemporary style, located just a few meters from Johannesburg’s largest airport. Despite its proximity to the airport, soundproofing ensures peace and quiet, with the spacious, well-appointed rooms and suites making for a pleasant overnight stay for those arriving or departing this culture-rich city.

While boasting a modern décor, the hotel reflects its traditional African heritage in the local artwork and tribal masks that adorn its walls, as well as in the local cuisine served in its on site restaurant, Quill.

Staff are friendly and will be happy to point you in the direction of Johannesburg’s best attractions.

We think this is a very comfortable, convenient and surprisingly peaceful place to overnight at Johannesburg, especially if you have an early connection the following morning, with the international and domestic arrivals and departures just meters away.

Rooms

Rooms are well-appointed and split into three categories. All feature spacious en suite bathrooms, TVs, minibars, individually-controlled air conditioning, tea/coffee making facilities and complimentary Wi-Fi access, while soundproofing ensures you’re not disturbed by any noise from the airport.

The entry-level Deluxe rooms are 32 square meters in size and sleep two guests in a large double bed. Executive rooms are more spacious at 44 square meters and feature an additional seating area, while the 68 square meter Suites offer further space and comfort, featuring a separate study, a lounge/dining area, an additional guest bathroom and a king sized bed.

Location

The hotel is just a short walk from Johannesburg’s international airport, serving as a gateway to Johannesburg and elsewhere, with domestic flights also departing from the airport. It has easy access to rail transport, taxi services and car hire, as well as the cultural attractions of cosmopolitan Johannesburg, which also has an excellent range of bars and restaurants.

Food and drink

The main restaurant, Quill, offers authentic African cuisine alongside international dishes in an elegant setting, with an 18-meter porcupine quill mobile providing a focal point. Open 24 hours a day, it serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, with much of the menu specializing in local delicacies such as springbok, crocodile and warthog. There’s a well-stocked bar serving cocktails, beers and local wines. Guests can also dine in their room.

Facilities and activities

Guests can unwind before or after a flight at the hotel’s Camelot Spa, which offers a range of rejuvenating treatments while overlooking the city. There’s also an indoor heated pool and a well-equipped gym. Staff will be happy to recommend places to visit or eat out in Johannesburg, which is well-known for its art and culture scene.
