Itinerary idea in detail

With international flights from a choice of airports including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Zagreb. You’ll be welcomed to the capital city of Zagreb by your private driver, who will escort you to your hotel. The afternoon can be spent settling in at your hotel or getting out on foot to explore the city's vibrant heart in your own time. With a strong café culture, lots of galleries and independent shops, and a host of interesting buildings, there’s plenty to absorb on your first walk around town.

  • Enjoy a private guided walking tour of Upper and Lower Zagreb to see the city’s neo-Baroque and Art Deco architecture, grand squares and quiet streets. Your tour will include a stop at the Mirogoj Cemetery, designed by Hermann Bollé. While exploring the sites, your guide will explain how the city developed from an Austro-Hungarian stronghold to a capital of Yugoslavia and finally an independent Croatia.

  • Leaving Zagreb, you’ll take the two-hour drive through the mountains to Plitvice Lakes National Park. Following the scenic walking trails and taking a trip on a small boat, you’ll get sweeping views of the park’s myriad waterfalls. From here, you’ll visit Rastoke, a small traditional mill town a 25-minute drive away that has kept its old-world atmosphere amid a network of streams and cascades. At the end of the day, you’ll check into your hotel in Plitvice.

  • Heading to the Adriatic Coast, you’ll make your way to the Istrian Peninsula and the medieval fishing town of Rovinj, a drive of around three hours. After checking in to your hotel, your local guide will show you around the narrow, winding streets and tell you about the town’s history as you visit the outdoor market, take in the view over Rovinj Bay and finish at the Church of Saint Euphemia which offers sunset views over the sea.

  • Today, you’ll experience some of Istria’s culinary highlights, spending your day visiting local food producers and learning about their traditional processes and products. Among the many stops are an olive oil tasting, a visit to the medieval hilltop town of Grožnjan, a chance to go truffle hunting and a wine tasting at a local vineyard before returning to Rovinj in the late afternoon.

  • Relax with a day to explore at your own pace. You may choose to unwind in the sun by the pool or on a local beach, but you’ll also find plenty of other attractions nearby and it’s easy to spend the day exploring nearby hill villages such as Bale or Buje, visiting the nearby parks on foot or taking a boat trip to offshore islands.

  • From Rovinj, you’ll be driven to the Italian city of Trieste, an hour and a half away, for a walking tour of the historic district and a visit to the nearby Miramare Castle which was home to Ferdinand Maximilian and Charlotte of Belgium of the Habsburg family. From here, you’ll continue for another hour to Slovenia’s diminutive capital city of Ljubljana.

  • Spend your day exploring Ljubljana with your guide, strolling the tranquil streets and visiting Ljubljana Castle before being driven out to the countryside and Lake Bled. Here, you’ll visit Bled Castle and enjoy a boat ride out to Bled Island, where the pilgrimage church of the Assumption of Mary sits among tall trees. Your last stop will be the Bohinj Valley where you’ll take a cable car to the local ski hub and get panoramic views of the Julian Alps.

  • Your driver will pick you up from your hotel and transfer you to the airport in plenty of time for your return flight home. Your return flight will arrive the same day.
