When is the best time to visit Dominica?

Visiting Dominica in April

Still falling within Dominica’s drier months, April sees mostly warm, dry days but fewer crowds than earlier in the year (except for Easter). The water visibility is still good for snorkelling and diving among Dominica’s coral reefs and drop-offs.

Visiting Dominica in May

May marks the start of a transition in Dominica’s weather, with temperatures rising and rain showers becoming more frequent. But the rains also bring a renewed vibrancy to the landscapes, and there’s still plenty of opportunity to get out and explore in between showers. Hiking trails can get muddy, so it’s best to pack appropriate clothing and footwear. Visitor numbers also start to drop, as do hotel prices.

Visiting Dominica in June - October

This is Domina’s wet season, which coincides with the Atlantic hurricane season. The landscapes are verdant and waterfalls are at full flow, but trails can be inaccessible due to mud and swelling rivers. It’s also very hot and humid. We recommend avoiding August and September, in particular, when the weather can be extreme.

Visiting Dominica in November

Frequents rains continue into November, but the weather gradually improves later in the month. This also marks the beginning of humpback whale season, when they start to migrate to warm Caribbean waters to breed and calve.
