Matamanoa Island Resort

The Mamanuca & Yasawa Islands, Fiji

This secluded island retreat is located in the heart of Fiji's Mamanuca Island chain and has a warm friendly atmosphere, with 10 villas, 24 bures, and 13 hotel rooms. The bures and villas are traditionally-styled Fijian which are all close to a beautiful beach.

A family-run, adults-only resort, Matamanoa has friendly staff and has plenty of facilities to keep you occupied during your stay, although this is also a good spot for some pure relaxation. The beach is lovely and the house reef is great for snorkelling.

OUR OPINION:

This is one of the most beautiful islands in Fiji, and its close proximity to the main island makes it easily accessible, whilst it retains an air of total seclusion. With a wonderfully laid back atmosphere and friendly staff, it offers a truly Fijian experience.

Rooms

The 47 villas, bures, and hotel rooms combine traditional Fijian design with modern elements. In keeping with the relaxing atmosphere they don’t have television, phones or Wi-Fi in the rooms but they do have all the other standard amenities you would expect including air-conditioning and tea/coffee facilities.

Location

The Matamanoa sits on a small, secluded island in a beautiful tropical location. The resort overlooks a white sand beach with views over the other Mamanuca islands and a house reef directly offshore. There are also a number of other beaches around the island.

Food and drink

There is one restaurant at Matamanoa offering simple but good quality food with an international menu as well as a selection of traditional Fijian fare that changes regularly. The dining room is situated at the heart of the resort with beautiful views out over the pool and sandy beach.

The resort's string band serenades each table nightly during dinner, singing your choice of song, or Fijian songs. After dinner a selection of light-hearted local entertainment is put on including crab racing, broom dancing and the famous local kava ceremony.

Vegan and vegetarian meals can be provided but choice is limited.

A complimentary buffet breakfast is served each morning from 7.30am to 10am. The choice is reasonable but it is largely fruit, cereals, pancakes and pastries.

Families

Children under 16 years are not permitted at Matamanoa.

Facilities and activities

The resort’s pool overlooks the beach and there's great snorkelling available directly from the beach at the house reef. Matamanoa offers a range of complimentary activities, including Hobie Cat sailing, canoeing, volleyball, tennis and table tennis. The resort can also arrange fishing or diving trips for a charge.

Local excursions

Matamanoa can arrange visits to local villages as well as day trips to other islands, coral viewing, snorkelling trips by boat and sailing trips.

Diving

There is a PADI scuba diving operator based at the resort. With over 40 dive sites within the Mamanuca Islands, there is an excellent choice of dives suitable for beginners or advanced divers. Take in shallow reefs, pinnacles, wrecks and encounter colourful marine life and sharks.

Spa Facilities

The spa at Matamanoa is built into the lush tree canopy and clings to the hillside with spectacular views out across the bay. The treatment rooms are partially open sided which allows for the lovely warm breeze and sound of the ocean to put you in a relaxed mood.

Choose from a wide range of massages and treatments and enjoy a relaxing herbal tea in the open-air spa lounge. The oils and lotions used in treatments at the spa are produced from local ingredients.

All clients receive a complimentary 10-minute spa foot ritual.
