Freiburg farmers' market
Freiburg farmers' market, Germany
Get an introduction to the cuisine and produce of the Black Forest by spending a morning exploring the local farmers’ market with your guide. You’ll get to sample treats, do some shopping of your own and learn about the local food scene as well as aspects of the square’s architecture, starting with the Gothic façade of Freiburg Cathedral that looms over the square.
Your expert guide can give you advice on popular local cuisine, as well as offer free tastings from certain vendors. We can also adjust the tour based on your food preferences, interest or allergies.
The tour is three hours, and is only available between April and October, every morning except Sunday. At the end of the tour, you’ll head to a cafe where you can enjoy a glass of wine and the tastings you collected from the market while looking out across the square.
Your private guide will meet you in the morning at your hotel, before leading you to the farmers’ market situated on the cobblestone square surrounding the church. The tour is three hours, and only in the morning. It’s available April through October, every day except Sunday. We recommend going on a weekday, when the market is a little less crowded.
As an introduction to Freiburg’s local scene, your guide will tell you about the history of the market and talk about the architecture of the buildings in the square. Because it’s a private tour, it can be adjusted to suit your individual wishes based on interests, food preferences or any allergies you may have. Your guide will be local and have a relationship with the vendors, giving you an insider experience and advice on local cuisine.
Some vendors will be happy to share samples with you, and your guide will advise you on what to buy and act as an interpreter to help you make purchases. The market ranges from spice and sausages to locally made crafts. After exploring the farmers’ market, you’ll head to a local cafe. There, you can sit back and enjoy your samples and purchases from the market with a glass of wine, while taking in the view of the cathedral.
The tour ends back in the square in front of Freiburg Cathedral.
