Itinerary idea in detail

Includes international flights from a choice of UK airports, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

  • Today you begin your journey by boarding your international outbound flight to Antananarivo.

  • On arrival at Antananarivo's Ivato Airport, you'll be met by your driver and taken to your hotel by private transfer. You have the rest of the day to relax at your lodgings or, depending on your arrival time, explore the city's historic old town and vibrant markets with a guide.

    Stay at Nosy Manga
  • This morning, your driver will meet you at your hotel and drive you back to Ivato Airport in time for your scheduled charter flight to Ifotaka in the south of Madagascar. On arrival, a driver from Mandrare River Camp will meet you and take you to the camp a few minutes away. In the evening you’ll head out for a night walk in the forest in search of the lemurs, birds, chameleons and owls that all call this area home.

  • There are many activities to enjoy from Mandrare River Camp. We highly recommend walks in the sacred gallery and spiny forests. These are excellent for viewing ring-tailed lemurs, Verreaux sifakas and an extraordinary array of flora and fauna. A guide and a tracker from the local community will shadow you if you wish to explore these areas, sharing their expertise and pointing out what they see.

  • Today you may like to a walk in the spiny forest and look out for the many endemic birds in this area, from crested coua to a variety of vangas. After a delicious breakfast, you’ll have the choice of visiting a local market or village before returning to camp for lunch. You may like to spend some time in your luxury tent enjoying views over the Mandrare River. The day will end among the baobab trees as the sun sets.

  • Today you may like to visit the stunning saltwater lake of Lac Anony, a day trip offered from the camp. Your driver will depart after breakfast with the journey taking approximately two hours. Home to greater flamingoes and a variety of saltwater birds, the area is renowned for its untamed scenery. Here you’ll eat a picnic lunch along the lake shore, before climbing the sand dunes for incredible views over the lake before returning to camp.

  • This morning your driver will take you to the airport, a few minutes’ drive away, for your scheduled charter flight back to Antananarivo. You’ll be met on arrival by your guide, who will show you to your nearby hotel. This afternoon will involve a visit to Ambohimanga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ancestral home to the Merina kings and queens who united Madagascar under one rule.

    Stay at Nosy Manga
  • Today you’ll fly to the port town of Soalala by scheduled charter flight. On arrival, you’ll be driven by road to the remote Namoroka Tsingy Camp. After settling in to your safari-style tent, you’ll embark on a walk in the surrounding forest, searching for the lemurs, chameleons, sifakas and birds that can be found here.

  • Today is yours to explore the lesser-visited Namoroka National Park, renowned for its unique tsingy limestone formations. Due to its remote location, the park remains largely undiscovered and scientists are still finding new discoveries throughout the six ecosystems that make up this area. You may have the opportunity to see fossa or the rare aye-aye lemur before enjoying sundowners among the baobabs.

  • If you’re feeling adventurous, we’d recommend exploring the unique cave system that stretches under this area, one of the largest in Africa. Rare fossils such as the Archaeolemur, a giant lemur species, can be found here. After some time in the caves, you’ll relax with a picnic lunch in the shade of the tsingy before returning to camp.

  • This morning you’ll be driven to Soalala for your scheduled charter flight to Antananarivo to meet your onward international flight. If necessary, you will have the use of a day room at a nearby hotel before your flight.

  • Arrive home today to complete your journey.
