Hapuku Lodge

Kaikoura, New Zealand

Situated between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Hapuku Lodge enjoys a beautiful location on a deer stud and olive farm. Purpose built to maximise its position, the lodge itself houses just two guest rooms and five treehouses, each designed to allow stunning views of the surrounding dramatic scenery.

The rooms are wonderfully comfortable and spacious, featuring handcrafted furniture and attractive bathrooms and a sitting area with gorgeous views, complete with wood burner for cooler evenings, and a private balcony when it is warm.

Meals at the lodge are excellent, focusing on fresh locally sourced food. During your stay you have a full cooked breakfast along with a three-course dinner each evening.

OUR OPINION:

Hapuku Lodge offers a classic boutique accommodation, but if you are looking for something extra special for your stay in New Zealand, we would recommend staying in one of the luxury tree houses, where you can enjoy the breathtaking views from the comfort of your Jacuzzi bathtub.

Rooms

Hapuku Lodge has five different types of rooms and each is designed to encourage relaxation and comfort. In each of the room types you will find a deep soaking bathtub, a gas fireplace with a comfy sitting area that looks out onto the mountain ranges and a large comfortable bed with luxurious linens.

Location

Nestled at the foot of the Kaikoura Seaward Ranges, Hapuku Lodge is about a kilometre from the famous Mangamaunu surf break and a 10-minute drive away from Kaikoura and its abundance of marine life.

Food and drink

Hapuku Lodge’s food is their passion, which is evident from the production, preparation and presentation. While staying here, you can choose to sit next to the open kitchen to watch and chat with the chef as they prepare your meal, or you can sit in the dining area taking in the views of the olive garden. Most of their vegetables and herbs are grown on site and they source the best meat and fish directly from the farm or fisherman.

Families

The Family Tree Houses are perfect for families where you will find a downstairs bedroom that has been designed with children in mind to relax and play. Or you can stay in the spacious Olive House which is ideal for a family to spread out and unwind for a few nights stay.

Accessibility

The common areas and restaurant at Hapuku Lodge, as well as the Olive House accommodation and its en suite bathroom, are all wheelchair friendly.

Environmental and social responsibility

Kaikoura is one of the first townships in New Zealand to receive the Green Globe certification. Hapuku Lodge aims to nurture this certification and its unique surrounding environment through its sustainable operations to planting of native trees.
