With its lake and mountain views and off-beat artwork, Cortisen am See is an independently owned hotel designed by the owner, Roland. He’s collected quirky trinkets on his world travels, and used them in the decor, making for a bold change from typical Salzkammergut style. The walls and furniture are a mix of lime greens, fuchsia pinks and bright purples mixed with more calming grays, muted golds and cornflower blues, and each room is decorated with a different theme and palette. You’ll also find a spa area with an extensive gym, heated water beds, a steam bath and saunas, as well as a full range of beauty and massage treatments.
Cortisen am See is a short walk from the port and main square of Saint Wolfgang, where you can find shops, cafés and restaurants. There’s also a restaurant and bar within the hotel. The hotel offers activities such as water sports and hiking trails, and will let you rent a Harley-Davidson motorbike if you’re interested in exploring the surrounding country roads.
OUR OPINION:
We love this property’s bold and eccentric style. Roland has mixed modern flare with the historic building in an inventive style like no other in the area.

Rooms
No two rooms in the Cortisen am See are alike, and you’ll see different themes from room to room. Zebra-print accent walls, bright-red curtains contrasting with blue walls, black rattan chairs and Moroccan woven rugs are just some of the decorations throughout the 32 rooms and suites.
There are 20 double rooms at the hotel, with 12 suites and junior suites, all of which have views of the mountains or lake, Wi-Fi and en suite bathrooms. The better rooms also include a private balcony. The most luxe room is two stories and features two balconies with panoramic views over the lake.
Location
The hotel is conveniently located for exploring the lakeside town’s winding streets and hidden alleyways. A seven-minute stroll from the port of Saint Wolfgang, there are plenty of cafés, restaurants and artisan shops to enjoy. The hotel itself has direct access to the water, with views of the lake and the surrounding mountains.
