Set upon a hilltop overlooking the Saguenay Fjord, on the outskirts of the town of La Baie, the Auberge des Battures has a fantastic location. The building’s wooden exteriors help it to blend into the natural surroundings, while inside, traditional decor meets modern amenities.
Many of the 32 rooms and suites have balconies with views across the sparkling fjord or back toward the forest. Decorated in neutral tones, they each come with Wi-Fi access, an en suite bathroom and a cable TV.
Local produce with a French Canadian twist is served at the hotel’s restaurant, which is open for breakfast and dinner (and lunch on request). We particularly recommend the delicious homemade blackberry jam at breakfast time.
There are two outdoor terraces at the front of the hotel where you can relax with a glass of locally produced wine at the end of the day. Or, you can indulge in a massage at the health facility, where treatments range from hot stone and Swedish massages to sports massages.
This family-run property, while simple in style, is clean and comfortable with a friendly atmosphere. Along with the enviable location by the water, we particularly like the hotel’s restaurant, which serves excellent Boreal cuisine.

Rooms
Decorated in simple, neutral tones, the rooms and suites here come with a good range of modern amenities, including Wi-Fi. The fjord-view rooms and suites all overlook the Saguenay Fjord, and many have private balconies. Two bedrooms are located on the ground floor and feature patios rather than balconies.
The standard and superior forest-view rooms are situated at the back of the hotel, some of which also feature a balcony. Some rooms have space for up to three people.
The deluxe fjord-view suite is the most spacious option and comes with a whirlpool bath, positioned next to the window for views over the water.
Location
Situated just outside the town of La Baie and set right on the water’s edge, Auberge des Battures has a more peaceful rural charm than more central properties. The town’s restaurants are still just a 15-minute drive away, while the Saguenay Fjord National Park is under an hour’s drive away along Highway 72.
Food and drink
A cooked or cold breakfast with homemade jams and other local produce is served in the hotel’s restaurant. Lunches are served during the summer with prior reservation. In the evening, you can sample Boreal cuisine, which focuses on local produce with a French-Canadian twist. For more variety, you could dine in one of La Baie’s restaurants just a short drive away.
