Steam Ship Sudan

Cruise Ships in Egypt : Steam Ship Sudan

Built in 1885 as a gift for King Fouad and launched as a cruise vessel in 1921, the Steam Ship Sudan retains the Belle Époque grace that inspired Agatha Christie to write Death on the Nile. The ship plies the Nile on five-night cruises that launch from either from either Luxor or Aswan.

A celebrated ship with a prestigious history, the Steam Ship Sudan offers a chance to explore the Nile in 1920s style. Named after celebrities of the era, the cabins embody Belle Époque elegance with period furniture like old-fashioned telephones and brass beds.

The limited number of berths promotes an intimate feeling on board. Adding to the serene atmosphere, the ship is equipped with a hybrid diesel/steam engine that provides a quieter and more energy-efficient propulsion, though you can still visit the original workings, including the pistons and paddle wheels. There’s no pool for guests, but you can relax on the sundeck and watch the landscape scroll by.

Cabins

Named after luminaries like Agatha Christie and Egyptologist Howard Carter, each of the 18 cabins and five suites recalls the Belle Époque grace of the 1920s, with bright textiles and period furniture, including wall-mounted telephones and brass bedsteads. All rooms boast views over the river and access from the promenade deck.
