The impressive exterior carries through to the lobby, where you’ll be greeted by a marble staircase with a brass bannister, red-marble pillars and a black-oak reception desk. The dark leather chairs, chandeliers and grand piano give the hotel an elegant and historical feel. Hotel Atlantic Kempinski was once the hotel of choice for first class passengers on cruises from the US, and this maritime past is evident in details like brass cannons in the hallways and lights resembling portholes.

There are 221 rooms and suites, all generously sized and some featuring views out over the blue waters of Lake Alster.

Rooms

You can choose from a variety of room and suite categories, ranging from the simpler Superior room to the opulent Presidential suite. All rooms are spacious and you can enjoy lake views in the Superior Lake View and Deluxe Lake View rooms, as well as in all suites except the Junior suite, which looks into the quiet courtyard or onto a side street.

The rooms all start with neutral-toned walls of gray and beige, but are then accented with richer hues, often purple. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, Nespresso machines and iPod docking stations.

Location

Hotel Atlantic Kempinski is on the edge of Lake Alster, one of Hamburg’s historical entry points and today a hub of activity in the warmer months. When the weather’s nice, you’ll see water sports and boat tours in abundance on the water. It’s also just a short walk to the market square, main shopping streets and train station. There are also many restaurants and cafés within a five-minute walk.
