Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome

Rocco Forte Hotel de Rome

Berlin, Germany

With details like original wood panels and re-purposed bank vaults, the luxe Hotel de Rome still recalls its past as the 19th-century headquarters for Dresden Bank. However, it now also offers a rooftop bar with sweeping panoramic city views, a restaurant boasting a Michelin-star chef and a convenient location to much of what Berlin has to offer.

Past its marble façade, large columns frame the entrance to the lobby, where you can see the hotel’s combination of historic grandeur and modern elegance in features like marble flooring, a glass-accented ceiling and dark furnishings.

The hotel has 108 rooms and 37 suites, all generously sized and decorated in an elegant minimalist style. The Historic Banker Suite was once a palatial conference room, while the indoor pool formerly housed the bank’s treasured jewels.

OUR OPINION:

We love this hotel for its history, its location and most of all, its panoramic rooftop terrace, an excellent spot to sip a cocktail and enjoy the views of the city.

Rooms

The 108 rooms and 37 suites vary from generously sized Classic Rooms to the lavish Royal Bebel Suite. All the rooms combine the building’s banking heritage with the hotel’s luxe design. The modern and spacious rooms are decorated with deep neutrals, with wood panels on the walls, original from when the rooms were used as offices.

Views vary, with rooms overlooking Bebelplatz, the city, Saint Hedwig’s Cathedral, the Berlin Opera House or the hotel’s courtyard. Wi-Fi and mosaic-adorned en suite bathrooms with bathtubs and walk-in showers come standard. There are also smart TVs, designer skincare products, bathrobes and slippers.

Location

Hotel de Rome is conveniently within walking distance of the State Opera House, Gendarmenmarkt and Unter den Linden, which leads to the Reichstag and Tiergarten Park, Berlin’s most popular city park. The Holocaust memorial and Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are both a short walk away as well. The Berlin Wall at Eastside Gallery is about a ten-minute drive.
