Katharina, Moyo Island, Indonesia

A great way to see more off the beaten track areas of Indonesia, the Katharina Phinisi is an elegant two-masted schooner that offers 10 day cruises from Bali to Komodo from March to September. You will be taken to the topical islands of Lombok, Sumbawa, and Flores. On most days you will stop for snorkeling once or twice and then head on to land for an excursion to villages or national parks.

The main drawcard is seeing the notorious Komodo Dragon in its natural habitat and the only place in the world where they can be found in the wild. In the winter months the boat heads further afield to the eastern islands, a remoter and largely unexplored part of Indonesia.

Hand-built by native craftsmen and fully laid out in tropical hardwood with traditional rigging, the Katharina offers an excellent standard of reliability, safety and comfort for cruising the Indonesian archipelago.

Six cabins are set below deck and do not have any portholes but there is one 'family' cabin set on the upper deck with portholes on both sides and is much more spacious. This cabin books out well in advance and comes with a 50% surcharge.

The boat also boats a dining room as well as a large deck-space with comfortable deck chairs and sun benches to enjoy the scenery which drifts by during cruising time. On board there are also games, sea kayaks, body boards, deck-mattresses, snorkeling equipment, fishing gear and two tenders with outboard to make life on board as pleasant as one can imagine.

The Katharina is fully equipped with the latest in navigational equipment: radar, depth sounder, GPS, VHS, all band radios and satellite telephones. For personal safety, they carry life-jackets, inflatable life-rafts, buoys and for the communication of emergency conditions beacons, flares and IPIRB.
