Itinerary idea in detail

Ask us if you would also like us to arrange your international flights at our preferred rates.

  • On arrival in Windhoek, you're met by your private driver and driven to your guesthouse. Audley representatives will answer any questions and talk you through your information pack, including a mobile phone, cool box and driving directions. Your fully insured car is delivered to your accommodation, and the rest of the day is yours to relax or explore Namibia's capital. Depending on your arrival time, you could browse the city's shops and markets, visit the State Museum to learn about Namibia's history, or head out for something to eat — we can book you a table at one of our recommended restaurants before your arrival.

  • We recommend an early start this morning, as the drive from Windhoek to Sesriem takes approximately six hours. The roads are mainly gravel but in good condition, and the views along the way are breathtaking. It may be worth stopping off at one of the supermarkets in Windhoek to stock up on snacks and water for the journey. If you like apple pies, we recommend stopping off at Solitaire for a short break.

  • This morning your guide will wake you up and take you into the park to visit the largest sand dunes in Namibia and arguably the world. The contrast between the sand and the clear blue skies is incredible. You can enjoy a lovely stroll through the dunes and visit Deadvlei. If you are feeling energetic, you can climb to the top of Dune 45, or for the ultimate dune challenge, you can climb 'Big Daddy' for some fantastic views and photo opportunities. After lunch this afternoon, you can participate in another activity or, if you prefer, relax by the pool and enjoy the heat and beautiful scenery around you.

  • You have another full day in the area to make the most of the activities. Your guide can take you to Sesriem Canyon, take you on nature drives, or you can enjoy the walking trails in the area. If you want to make your stay extra special, book a sunrise hot air balloon for one of your mornings here. The view is spectacular and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This evening watch the sunset with your favorite drink and enjoy the beautiful colors.

  • Drive for around six hours to Swakopmund today, a picturesque colonial town on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. After settling into your accommodation, you can enjoy a leisurely afternoon exploring this small colonial town with its aquarium, museum, shops and galleries.

  • There are a number of excursions you can do from Swakopmund. The most popular is sea kayaking from Walvis Bay, where you can get very close to the seals and sometimes see dolphins.

  • A long drive today of six hours on the coastal road to Mowe Bay, driving past the seal colony at Cape Cross. At Mowe Bay, you will drop your car and transfer by 4x4 to Shipwreck Lodge for your two-night stay.

  • During your stay at Shipwreck Lodge, you can book scenic nature drives or walks as well as excursions to the coast itself to witness some of the remaining shipwrecks.

  • You will be transferred back to your car before you drive northeast to Palmwag which will take around five hours through the beautiful scenery of Damaraland. Again, leave your car behind at Palmwag before transferring by 4x4 to Desert Rhino Camp.

  • Today, you can track black rhino by vehicle and on foot. This is a truly special experience accompanied by rangers and Save the Rhino Trust members. In the afternoon you can go for a walk or a drive, or simply relax at the camp if you prefer.

  • This morning you can enjoy another safari or walk from Desert Rhino Camp before you are transferred back to your car. Self-drive north to central Etosha, making your way to the private Ongava Reserve which shares its border with the famous Etosha National Park.

  • You have a full day to explore the park. Etosha is a very easy park to self-drive around as the roads are well-maintained, and there are road signs directing you around. If you prefer a guide and safari vehicle for some of your time in the park, you can book these on arrival at the camp.

  • You have another full day to explore the area. If you haven't already, spend some time enjoying Ongava's private reserve. From here you can enjoy walking safaris, sunset drives and rhino tracking.

  • Today you will drive six hours back to Windhoek Airport for your final night.
