Hotel Indigo

The Hague, The Netherlands

Located in a former bank building, Hotel Indigo combines an interesting past with a convenient location to explore The Hague’s highlights. Directly opposite the Palace Noordeinde, this historic building still boasts many of its original features, like marble columns, old bank signs painted above doorways and royal portraits in the public rooms.

The bank was built in 1882, and then used as a bunker in World War II. During that time the royal family had their own room there and the third floor served as a hiding spot for Jewish people. Below ground, the old vault has been turned into a bar and adjoining meeting rooms where the old metal vault doors are still functional.

The communal spaces have a chic, retro feel to them with original tiled or marble floors and stylish purple velvet sofas, modern coffee tables and geometric gilded lamps with exposed bulbs. The 63 rooms have the same atmosphere, with geometric patterns, bold hues and nods to the building’s history as a bank. The hotel safe and minibar are set within a blue vintage safe, complete with a vault-wheel you can turn to open it.

OUR OPINION:

We like this hotel for its chic, retro style within a historic bank building. We love the nods to its past through the artwork and bar located in the bank’s vault, complete with original vault doors and locks.
