PurePod Kahutara, New Zealand

Kahutara PurePod

Kaikoura, New Zealand

Surrounded by its own pocket of hidden wilderness (its exact location is not revealed until you travel), powered by solar and built almost completely out of glass, the Kahutara PurePod is a unique, off-grid property, perfect for disconnecting from the hubbub of a busy life while immersing oneself in nature. The pod’s glass walls, ceiling, large sliding-doors and even its floor, mean that you have views on all four sides of your stay, including sweeping views of the Seaward Kaikoura mountain range and expansive rolling countryside, unpolluted skies above, and native plants which you’ll see growing beneath the pod itself.

Spend your days exploring the surrounding wilderness and hiking along well-formed farm tracks to seek out even better views or, if such exploration is not what you desire, take it all in a more languorous fashion, enjoying the scenery from the comfort of your deck chair, stargazing with the provided telescope and reconnecting in life’s simple pleasures while disconnecting from both phone and Wi-Fi signals.

OUR OPINION:

A simply unique experience, Kahutara PurePod allows for a complete escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern world.

Rooms

Glass, glass and more glass are the key features of this PurePod, which will allow you to fully immerse in nature and the solitude and privacy of your location. The pod comes equipped with a decking area and barbecue, kitchenette, biofuel heating system and en suite bathroom (also equipped with beautiful views). Note, the Kahutara PurePod, by design, is off-grid, with no Wi-Fi, or phone signal, however an emergency satellite telephone and USB port for charging personal devices are provided, as are books, games, a star map and a telescope.

Location

Part of the exciting appeal of staying in a PurePod is that the exact location remains a secret until you’re due to travel, however we can tell you that this property is perched high above the Kahutara River and is completely secluded, yet only 20 minutes inland from the popular seaside town of Kaikoura. Driving into the car park is the start of your unique adventure as you ford small streams before parking near a farmhouse on the property. Here you'll leave your car during your stay and from the car park you will make your way on foot (10 to 15 minutes in total) to your hidden eco-cabin, which will take you through a grove of trees and across a farm track before you arrive at your accommodation.

Food and drink

The property is self-contained and you are provided with a luxurious hamper for your stay, including locally sourced cheese, pate, crackers and ciabatta bread, plus your choice of salmon, chicken, beef or venison with potatoes and salads for dinner, a sweet treat to finish and homemade muesli and local organic yogurt for breakfast. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are also available on request.
