URSO Hotel & Spa

URSO Hotel and Spa

Madrid, Spain

Named for the emblematic bear on the Madrid coat of arms, the URSO Hotel and Spa offers upscale elegance in a quiet area on the edge of central Madrid. The welcoming lobby is encompassed by a comfortable lounge, decorated with period features.

An antique elevator leads to the hotel’s 78 rooms, each filled with high-quality furnishings, from tweed headboards to comfy, elegant armchairs. Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the rooms in light and all offer views of the surrounding streets. Everything in the minibar comes directly from Madrid or the surrounding area and air conditioning, flat-screen TVs and free Wi-Fi come as standard.

Breakfast is served in a glass-roofed atrium with a vertical garden, its walls lined with wallpaper covered in birds and flowers. Just next door (but still owned by the hotel) the Media Ración restaurant serves a selection of tapas as well as larger seasonal entrées. There is also a small hotel bar.

The hotel is around a 15-minute walk from Puerta del Sol and just over 20 from the Museo del Prado. It is well located for exploration while enjoying a quieter environment for a relaxing stay. In the basement you’ll find the URSO spa, offering a pool, gym and steam room as well as an extensive treatment menu.

OUR OPINION:

The location is slightly less central than other properties but we find the hotel to be elegant and refined and the service on offer second to none.

Rooms

Rooms are classically-refined but contemporary with a calming, muted palette and comfortable furniture. All face the building exterior and some have a French balcony overlooking the street below. Air conditioning, flat-screen TVs and complimentary Wi-Fi all come as standard, tweed headboards help with soundproofing, and soft armchairs provide a place to relax. En suite bathrooms offer both a bath and rain shower, as well as a robe and slippers. Though none of the rooms interconnect, junior suites are able to fit an extra bed.

Location

The hotel’s location just outside the heart of Madrid ensures a calmer setting, though it is still well located to explore the city. There is a metro stop just a three-minute walk away, or, if you prefer to walk, you can reach the central Puerta del Sol in about 15 minutes on foot. El Retiro Park and the Museo del Prado are both about a 20-minute walk away.

Food and drink

The central glass-covered atrium is the setting for breakfast each morning, furthering the peaceful ambience of the hotel with bird and flower-covered wallpaper and a vertical garden. Just next door (but still owned by the hotel) you’ll find the Media Ración restaurant, serving a seasonal menu of classic Spanish tapas and larger entrées, as well as some internationally-inspired dishes. A bright bar area is open every day until midnight, offering an impressive wine, champagne and cocktail menu.

Facilities and activities

The URSO Spa, located in the basement, offers an expansive range of facial and body treatments including a tailor-made full-body treatment created especially for the hotel. There are also recommendations for special seasonal treatments to promote overall well-being. In addition to the therapeutic treatments, guests can also make use of a hammam, hydrotherapy pool, and gym.

Accessibility

Accessible rooms are available for guests with mobility issues.
