On arrival in to Bangkok you will be met by your driver and guide and chauffeured to your hotel. Evening at your own leisure.

You have a full day to explore the highlights of this bustling capital including the Grand Palace and the network of backwater canals or klongs.

This morning sees you explore some of Bangkok's local markets before being taken to the airport in time for your flight to the ancient capital of Sukhothai in the afternoon, where you will be met and escorted to your hotel.

Today you visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site and first capital of the Kingdom of Siam, Sukhothai. The historical park is a wonderfully preserved example of this fallen city that was sacked by the Burmese in the 14th Century. A great way of exploring the park is by hiring a bike late afternoon as the sun changes the hues of the crumbling Buddha effigies and temples.

In the morning you have more time to explore some of the historical sites around Sukhothai before departing for the sleepy town of Nan. Situated close to the Laos border, Nan is an interesting half way point for intrepid travellers taking an alternative route between the north and Sukhothai. This small town has many interesting temples to visit as well a municipal museum.

From Nan continue through the mountains to the Golden Triangle region where the countries of Thailand, Laos and Burma converge. Enjoy the views as the road winds through stunning, picturesque scenery. Stay overnight at the Lanjia Lodge, a delightful community-based lodge nestled on a hill overlooking the Mekong River and staffed by local Hmong villagers.

Transfer from Lanjia Lodge through the scenic landscapes to the small town of Fang, once a busy Lanna city but now a quiet jumping off point for local exploration.

This morning you will travel by road to Doi Angkhang, a little visited mountain retreat nestled on the Burmese border. This area is dubbed 'Little Switzerland' for its stunning scenery and alpine feel. After your exploration of Doi Angkhang, continue on to Chiang Mai for the evening.
