Coco Riverside Lodge

Coco Riverside Lodge

Vietnam

The small and rustic Coco Riverside Lodge blends effortlessly into the rural backdrop of Vung Liem Village, Vinh Long and makes for the perfect base from which to explore. Vinh Long is famed for its number of orchards and the lodge is no exception, surrounded by cacao, coconuts and dragon fruit.

With only five bungalows, the property is unassuming and relaxed, and each has its own private en suite, minibar and large veranda to take in the views over the river. Meals are served in a simple restaurant and dishes are typical Mekong fare. In addition there are plenty of activities on offer including cycling, rowing, cooking and boating.

OUR OPINION:

This is an intimate, family run lodge, set in a remote area of the Mekong Delta. We particularly like the activities designed to engage guests with local culture and history, however the beautiful riverfront location also merits some time for relaxation.

Rooms

Coco Riverside Lodge has six rooms, comprising two different categories. The larger garden rooms are set back from the water and thus don't have river views, however they are slightly larger. The four riverfront bungalows offer simple comfort and modern amenities such as air-conditioning and a minibar. Each riverfront room has its own terrace with hammock, daybed and table and chairs to enjoy the surroundings. Vietnamese coffee making facilities are complimentary.

Location

Around three and half hours from Ho Chi Minh City, tucked away down a village path with no road access, Coco Riverside has a secretive location in the heart of Vinh Long province. A five-minute walk from the drop-off point takes you to the lodge, where you are greeted by lush gardens and uninterrupted views of a quiet Mekong tributary.

Food and drink

The lodge has one restaurant set back from the rooms and offers a selection of typical Mekong specialities across breakfast, lunch and dinner. A short cooking demonstration takes place each evening where guests can learn to make banh xeo (a stuffed Vietnamese pancake) that will contribute to your starter. Weather permitting, breakfast can be served on board the lodge's own boat en route to the nearby market. Breakfast usually consists of bread, jam, eggs, fruit and cereal served alongside fresh fruit juice.
